Slovak-Omsk Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation to resume work

Alexander Burkov, Acting Governor of the Omsk Region, discussed with Peter Priputen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Russian Federation, issues of interregional cooperation.

"The political dialogue that is actively developing today at the level of the presidents of our countries should be supported by economic relations, both at the interstate and interregional levels," said Alexander Burkov, head of the Omsk Region, at a meeting with the head of the Slovak Republic's diplomatic mission in the Russian Federation.

Peter Priputen noted that his country remembers and appreciates the role of the Soviet Army in the liberation from fascism, almost 70 thousand soldiers gave their lives for it. "We attach great importance to this, we take care of the monuments and graves of Soviet soldiers," said the Slovak Ambassador.  The parties had a warm conversation during a working meeting dedicated to discussing issues of cooperation, which has a long history. For Peter Priputen, this is the first official visit to Omsk in the status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Russian Federation. However, he had previously visited the city, accompanying Slovak President Ivan Gasparovich during his visit to Omsk.

Slovakia and the Omsk region have a long-term partnership in the economy, culture, education and sports. There are many examples of this. For a long time, a tire manufacturing company operated jointly with the Slovaks, today it produces Cordiant tires, one of the most purchased in Russia and exported to more than 30 countries around the world. Omsktekhuglerod supplies carbon to the Slovak market, while another Omsk company, Poliom, exports polypropylene. The Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Omsk provides assistance to the Russian-Slovak partnership.

The mutual foreign trade turnover of Slovakia and the Omsk region in January – September of this year exceeded $ 2 million. Compared to last year, it has grown by more than half. Slovakia supplies the region with products from the mechanical engineering, chemical industry and metals. Omsk region exports chemical products.

"The potential of our cooperation is far from exhausted. Our common goal is to increase trade turnover and provide an opportunity for business development. We invite Slovak businesses to cooperate in the field of timber processing, the implementation of environmental projects related to the processing of industrial and household waste, and the creation of new facilities for the deep processing of agricultural raw materials. Slovak business has all these competencies, and this is what we are interested in," said Acting Governor Alexander Burkov.

The head of the Omsk region supported the proposal of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Russian Federation to resume the work of the joint Slovak-Omsk Commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation. Alexander Burkov today gave the relevant instruction to the Ministry of Economy of the region.

Peter Priputen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Russian Federation, promised that by the next meeting at the embassy in Moscow he would try to work out the directions outlined by Alexander Burkov.
